Notes GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery: Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Haiyang Erhao". Year of discovery: 1980. History: Named from the nearby Zhongsha Qundao (Zhongsha Islands), which were marked as Shixing on the nautical chart of Zhenghe, the famous Chinese navigator during the Ming Dynasty.
