Notes GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery: Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 1997. History: Named from the Kerama Islands (Retto in Japanese), located to the west of Okinawa Island. The major islands of the archipelago include Tokashiki Island, Zamami Island, Yakabi Island, and Aka Island.
