De Belgische Antarctica expeditie (1897-1899) onder leiding van Adrien de Gerlache ontdekte het eiland en noemde het naar mevrouw de Rongé, beschermvrouw van de expeditie en de echtgenote van de vicevoorzitter van de ‘Club Africain’. |
