Découverte par l’expédition belge en Antarctique de 1897-1899 sous le commandement d’Adrien de Gerlache et baptisée du nom d’une circonscription de la ville de New York – Brooklyn – patrie du Dr Frederick A. Cook, membre américain de l’expédition qui travailla en qualité de chirurgien, anthropologue et photographe. |

De Belgische Antarctica expeditie (1897-1899) onder leiding van Adrien de Gerlache ontdekte het eiland en noemde het naar Brooklyn, NY, de thuisstad van Dr. Frederick A.
