Belgica information (en): Small bay lying 1.5 mi SW of D'Ursel Point along the E side of Brabant Island, in the Palmer Archipelago. Roughly charted by the BelgAE under Gerlache, 1897-99. Photographed by Hunting Aerosurveys Ltd. in 1956-57, and mapped from these photos in 1959. Named by the UK-APC for Avicenna (Abu Ali al Hussein abu Abdullah ibn Sina), 980-1037, greatest of the Arabian school of physicians (http://www.geoscience.scar.org/meetings/shanghai/cga_letter_a.pdf / http://geonames.usgs.gov). |
