Additional information (en): This feature comprises three canyons, on the upper continental slope, extending from approximately 10 km E of northernmost New Zealand. The name first appeared on Coastal Bathymetry Series (CBS) chart 'North Cape' in 1990. Minimum depth (m): 130. Maximum depth (m): 1800. Total relief (m): 1670. Dimension/size: 30 km x 8 km.    
GEBCO: associated meeting, proposer and year of proposal (en): Associated meeting: SCUFN-31. Proposer: New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB). History: 2018.    
GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: Named in association with Parengarenga Harbour on the adjacent coast. The name means "a sand bank" in Maori language. There are strong currents in the area that form sand corrugations on the bed of the bay. There is a macron on the first "a".
