GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: Named after John Guy who sailed from Bristol in 1610 with three ships and 41 people. He set up his colony at Cupids, then Cuper's Cove, Newfoundland, Canada. The first planned colony on the island is credited to John Guy. He died in 1629.
