GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: New Zealand research vessel "Tangaroa". Year of discovery: 1977. History: Named for Putoto (with a macron on 'u'), the Maori word for 'magma' and the direct offspring of Hinetapeka (macron on 1st 'a').    
Additional information (en): This feature is located 80 km north of Hinetapeka Seamount, adjacent to Kermadec Ridge. It forms a volcanic edifice with an associated caldera. Minimum depth (m): 225. Maximum depth (m): 1600. Total relief (m): 1375. Dimension: 28 km x 27 km.
