GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: New Zealand research vessel "Monowai". Year of discovery: 1978. History: Named from the Royal New Zealand Navy research vessel HMNZS "Monowai" that surveyed this feature. The term Monowai is a compound of the Greek 'mono' (lit. 'one') and the Maori 'wai' (lit. 'water').    
Additional information (en): This feature lies 50 km north of Hinepuia Seamount, in the Kermadec volcanic arc. Minimum depth (m): 96. Maximum depth (m): 1630. Total relief (m): 1534. Dimension: 24 km x 25 km.
