GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: New Zealand research vessel "Tangaroa". Year of discovery: 2002. History: Named after Dr WRB Oliver (1883-1957) who organised the first scientific expedition to the Kermadec Islands in 1909, and subsequently published a series of natural science papers. Dr Oliver subsequently became the Director of New Zealand's Dominion Museum.
