This name is well known since the 70's and has been mentioned in many scientific papers and publications, for instance in "REMAC Project - Geomorphology of the Brazilian Continental Margin and adjacent oceanic areas". The name is a tribute to Saint Francis of Assisi, who is celebrated on the date of the river discovery (4 October). |
