GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 1999. History: Named after Dr. Yoshiyuki Nozaki (1946-2003), a Japanese chemical oceanographer working for the Ocean Research Institute, University of Tokyo. His primary interest was to reveal atmosphere-ocean sediment material transfer process, using natural radioactive nuclides. His work also included chemical oceanography using rare earth elements.
