GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 1998. History: Named after Dr. Kiyoshi Asano (1910-1989), a Japanese palaeontologist, Professor at Tohoku University. He established the basis of micro-palaeontology in Japan, fostering many professionals in this discipline. His research was mainly concerned with the systematic description and geographic distribution of Pliocene to recent benthic foraminifera.
