Notes GEBCO: associated meeting, proposer and year of proposal (en): Associated meeting: SCUFN-27. Proposer: Mark Dyer, New Zealand Geographic Board (NZGB); and Adam Greenland, New Zealand Hydrographic Office (LINZ). Year of proposal: 2014.     
GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: New Zealand research vessel "Tangaroa". Year of discovery: 1969. History: Named from the nearby bay and locality of Hoopers Inlet ("Puketuroto" in Maori language - "puke": hill; "tu": to stand; "roto": inland or lake), New Zealand. Dual name adopted by the New Zealand Geographic Board in 2014.    
Additional information (en): This feature forms at the confluence of several canyons at the foot of the steep upper continental slope, 70 km SE of Otago Peninsula and SE of the South Island of New Zealand. The name first appeared on Oceanic Bathymetry Series (OBS) chart 'Otago' in 1969.
