GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: Named from the nearby Hikunui Island, east of Coromandel Peninsula, North Island of New Zealand.    
Additional information (en): This is a NE-SW aligned feature between a group of knolls to the N, and Hikurangi Ridge to the S. The name first appeared on NZ Coastal Bathymetry Series (CBS) chart 'Cuvier' in 1989. Minimum depth (m): 1700. Maximum depth (m): 2500. Total relief (m): 800. Dimension: 30 km x 10 km.
