Notes GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: Probably named after Walter Roy Seelig (1920-2005), who was the National Science Foundation Representative in Christchurch during eleven United States Antarctic Research Program austral deployments between 1971 and 1986. In 1964-65 he was scientific coordinator for the United States / New Zealand Ross Sea Islands Survey conducted from the USCGC "Glacier".

Additional information (en): This feature is located in the Southern Ocean, southeast of Buckle Island, Balleny Islands. The name first appeared on Island Bathymetry Series (IBS) chart 'Buckle Island' in 1969. Minimum depth (m): 2055. Maximum depth (m): 2400. Total relief (m): 345.
