Notes GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Xiang Yang Hong 10". Year of discovery: 2014. History: Mangzhong is the ninth term of "The 24 Solar Terms" and means "Grain in Beard". The 24 Solar Terms is the Chinese heritage and knowledge in China of time and practices developed through observation of the sun's annual motion. The ancient Chinese divided the sun's annual circular motion into 24 segments. Each segment was called a specific Solar Term. Mangzhong indicates that the midsummer officially begins.
