Notes GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Chinese research vessel "Dayang Yihao". Year of discovery: 2010. History: Named after the Chinese naturalist Feng Yan (dates of birth and death unknown) who lived during the Tang Dynasty of China (c. 7th to 9th centuries AD). He wrote a famous book which first proposed that tide, with its monthly variations, was caused by the moon's interaction with sea water.
