Additional information (en): Okeanos Explorer Seamount N OKEANOSEXPLORERSEAMOUNT 2017-10-31 2017-10-31 1 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 Okeanos Explorer Seamount is located in the Northern Pacific Ocean; Northwestern Hawaiian Islands; approx. 200 miles south of Midway Islands; it’s beyond the U.S. Territorial Sea and within the U.S. EEZ. It is situated within the Papahanumokuakea Marine Nat’l Monument. Feature Description: Max depth: approx. 5,330m, Min depth: approx. 3,894m, Total Relief: approx. 1,436m. Survey vessel: NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer. The name is in honor of the NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer, which mapped the seamount for the first time on March 11, 2016. Proposer: Dr. Daniel Wagner, NOAA Papahanumokuakea Marine Nat’l Monument. Approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names at USBGN Meeting 271; 17 Oct. 2017. |
