Additional information (en): Rooney Seamount is located in the Northern Pacific Ocean; western Hawaiian Ridge; approx. 80 miles south of Midway Islands; Beyond the U.S. Territorial Sea and within the U.S. EEZ. It is situated within the Papahanumokuakea Marine Nat’l Monument. Feature Description: Max depth: approx. 4,700m, Min depth: approx. 649m, Total Relief: approx. 4,051m. Survey vessel: NOAA ship Okeanos Explorer. The commemorative name is in honor of Dr. John Rooney (1960-2016). Dr. Rooney devoted his life to studying deep-water geology and geomorphology, and led many expeditions that mapped the waters around Hawaii andother places in the Pacific.
