Additional information (en): This is a N-NE, S-SW trending feature, located approximately 52 km SE of Mahia Peninsula on the E coast of the North Island of New Zealand. The name first appeared on Coastal Bathymetry Series (CBS) chart 'Mahia' in 1992. Minimum depth (m): 850. Maximum depth (m): 1050. Total relief (m): 200. Dimension/size: 18 km x 7 km.

GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: Named in association with Ritchie Banks, which were named after Rear-Admiral George Stephen "Steve" Ritchie (1914-2012), a British admiral noted for his cartographic and hydrographic work. He was Commanding Officer of HMNZS Lachlan, 1954-57.
