GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 2002. History: Named after Mr. Yushiro Tsukamoto (1901-1965), an ex-Chief Hydrographer of Japan and an astro-geophysicst who made a significant contribution to Japan's hydrography in the field of astronomy and calendar, in particular in the development of Japanese astronomical navigation table (Japanese ephemeris) in 1943, since astronomical almanacs could not be imported into Japan during World War II. In 1944, he further completed the "Alt-Azimuth Ephemeris".
