Notes Additional information (en): Feature description: A roughly circular caldera on Kermadec Ridge, approximately 1340km northeast of North Cape (Otou). History/Origin/Meaning: Named after the RNZN research vessel HMNZS Monowai and in association with the adjacent Monowai Seamount.

GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: New Zealand research vessel "Monowai". Year of discovery: 1984. History: Named from the Royal New Zealand Navy research vessel HMNZS "Monowai" that surveyed this feature. The term Monowai is a compound of the Greek 'mono' (lit. 'one') and the Maori 'wai' (lit. 'water').
