GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) "John A. Macdonald". Year of discovery: 1969. History: In 1969, R.K. Williams, the hydrographer in charge on the CCGS "John A. Macdonald", saw a shoal patch showing up suddenly on the echo sounder. He called Admiral Antony Storrs, of the Ministry of Transport, to take a look. The Admiral rushed over, saying "Where?" and then, "You mean that!" as he poked his finger at the sounder bending the stylus on the machine. |
