GEBCO: associated meeting, proposer and year of proposal (en): Associated meeting: SCUFN-32. Proposer: Japanese Committee on Undersea Feature Names (JCUFN). History: 2019.    
GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): "Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel ""Takuyo"". Year of discovery: 2001. History: Named from the vessel, USS Tuscarora. In 1874, George E. Belknap was on the Tuscarora when Sir William Thomson's piano-wire sounding machine was first used. During her voyages, she made over 500 ocean floor soundings and temperature readings in the Northwest Pacific (including around the area of this feature), discovering the depths of the Japan Trench and the Aleutian Trench. She was in service from 1861-1880."
