Additional information (en): Feature description: A bench (c.45m) on the west side of White Island, 1.9km from the north end at Cape Spencer-Smith, in the Ross Archipelago. The bench comprises the northwestern-most moraine-covered volcanic outcrops on the island, upon which occur tuffaceous conglomerate block and shelf fragments of the Scallop Hill Formation. History/Origin/Meaning: Named by US-ACAN (1999) after Ian G. Speden, N.Z. Geological Survey, DSM who, accompanied by A.C. Beck, collected fossiliferous deposits here, Dec. 22, 1958. |
