GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Japanese survey vessel "Takuyo". Year of discovery: 1987. History: Named to honor the close relationship and cooperation between Japan and the USA. "Yujo" standing for "Friendship" in Japanese, "Yujo-Friendship" literarlly stands for close friendship between the two countries. This feature lies in an area where the Japanese and US Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) meet. Approximately half of the feature locates in each countries’ EEZ. Both parts were mapped under national continental shelf survey programs. |
