GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Australian research vessel "Investigator". Year of discovery: 2017. History: Named after the Australian scientist Dr. Shirley Jeffrey (1930-2014), a preeminent researcher in the biochemistry of phytoplankton. This feature was chosen because its floor contains unexpected thick deposits of phytoplankton (diatoms).
