Additional information (en): This seamount lies within the U.S. exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. Named in honor of the Schmidt Ocean Institute, whose vessel the R/V Falkor was used to map this feature with multi-beam sonar in 2014. The proposal was coordinated with and received the support of the Deputy Superintendent of the Monument. Proposed by the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Approved by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names at USBGN Meeting 276; 16 July 2019. |
