GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Brazilian survey vessel "Almirante Alvaro Alberto". Year of discovery: 1988. History: Named after Antônio Carlos Moreira Pires, better known as Moraes Moreira (1947-2020), a Brazilian musician and songwriter from the nearby Bahia State. He was part of the Novos Baianos, a band that marked Brazilian popular music from the 1970s, after which he embarked on a solo career recording 29 albums. Moreira was one of the most versatile composers of Brazil, mixing the genres of rock, samba, choro, frevo, baião, and classical. |
