GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Indonesian Navy Survey Ship "KRI Rigel 933". Year of discovery: 2022. History: Named after Pong Tiku (1846-1907), an Indonesian national hero from South Sulawesi. He was a Toraja nobleman as well as a warlord in the resistance against the Dutch colonialists in 1906. Pong Tiku, also known as Ne Baso, died July 10, 1907 in Sadan River, Sinki Rantepao, Toraja, and was buried in the Pangala public cemetery, Tana Toraja. |
