GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): History: Named after Fridtjov Nansen (1861-1930), a Norwegian explorer of the Arctic. He was the first to cross Greenland by ski (1888), leader of the polar expedition on "Fram" (1893-1896), laureate of Nobel Prize (1922), and member of the GEBCO Committe
