History: Named after Professor Yurii Mikhailovich Pushcharovsky (1916-2018), a Russian Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). From the early 1970s, he studied tectonics, magmatism, structural development and geodynamics of the oceans. He was the scientific supervisor of many expeditions of the RAS Geological Institute in the Atlantic Ocean.
