GEBCO: discoverer and year of discovery (en): Discoverer: Philippines survey vessel "Hydrographer Presbitero". Year of discovery: 2008. History: Named from the sablot tree (litsea glutinosa), an evergreen tree that thrives in Philippine forests where the soil contains laterites and basalts. The leaves are essential in producing an excellent plaster for building simple, economical but safe structures. It is also known locally for its antibacterial, antioxidant and wound healing properties.
